Ashley Cole, 31, of Waverly, N.Y. was arrested on Friday, Jan. 25 after an investigation concluded she improperly received welfare funds such as food stamps, according to the Elmira Police Department.
Cole has been charged with Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree.
The Welfare Fraud Investigation Unit found that from November 2017 to August 2018, Cole submitted false documents to the Chemung County Department of Social Services and received $3,500 worth of food stamps.
Cole’s arrest is the third welfare fraud arrest in the region over the last week. Two Bath residents were arrested on Monday, Jan. 28 for receiving improper food stamp benefits.
