Woodstock 50 sits a few months away, however, one local transportation company has already started looking into how to staff the August event.
Total Transportation of Elmira has been looking to nearly double their fleet of taxis for Woodstock 50 weekend.
“I think probably, at least 20 vehicles we’ll send up there, that’s probably 10 more vehicles than we would send to the Phish concert,” John Kadar, the president of Ithaca Dispatch, the parent company of Total Transportation, said.
The company consists of a fleet of about 65 vehicles in total. On any given day, they typically use up to 50 cars between Elmira and Ithaca.
For Woodstock50, however, Total Transportation is looking to pull some vehicles from their Ithaca fleet to staff the event.
The challenge, according to Kadar, is finding employees.
“The labor market here, as far as I can tell, has tightened up a bit,” Kadar said, “We’re probably 10 to 15 drivers short of what we were maybe two years ago.”
As more summer events near, Total Transportation will look to aggressively advertise for more employees.
