Smoke detectors are placed in every building as a mandatory regulation by the NY fire department and are deemed as a necessary safety precaution. But what about when the fire alarms are going off for at least the 4th time in just a matter of weeks? Are they deemed more as a nuisance than a precaution? A growing safety concern is developing surrounding the fire alarms at the new apartment buildings on 100 W Water Street. The alarm has gone off four times because of what some consider average or light cooking smoke since April 1st. Some worry that it could be potentially disastrous in the event that residents wont continue to heed the fire alarm and evacuate the building especially given the dreary and miserable weather here in the Twin Tiers.
