A mother, who was using heroin and left her child unsupervised, has been charged after the child ingested the heroin.
Carli Donovan, 25, of Third St in Albany, has been charged with Reckless Endangerment in the 1st degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, staff from St. Peter’s Hospital notified police that a woman had entered the emergency room with her 13-month-old daughter after she had ingested heroin.
The 13-month-old was administered Narcan by hospital staff and treated for exposure to the drug.
She was later transferred to Albany Medical Center Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
During their investigation, officers learned that the mother was using heroin in their home and that she became unconscious and incapable of caring for the child.
During that time, the child located a quantity of heroin and had ingested it.
When she regained consciousness and became aware of what had occurred, the mother took her daughter to the hospital.
Donavan was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
