17-year-old charged for Clemens Center crash involving officer

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A 17-year-old female has been charged after Elmira Police say she ran a red light and struck an Elmira Police vehicle on the Clemens Center Parkway Wednesday night.

Police responded to the accident around 9:25 p.m. after receiving call of the accident. The officer involved in the accident was taken to the hospital, treated, and released for minor injuries.

The two people inside the second car were also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and have since been released.

According to the Elmira Police Department, “the Elmira Police Vehicle was traveling through a steady green traffic signal when the opposing vehicle disregarded a steady red traffic signal causing the crash.”

The 17-year-old driver was charged with failure to stop at a steady red traffic signal, operating in violation of license restrictions, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.

Elmira Police were assisted on scene by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police. Erway Ambulance and the Elmira Fire Dept also arrived on scene and rendered aid to both vehicles occupants.
