Acting Chemung County William Schrom wants to remove the word “acting” from his title. He’s expected to announce his candidacy on Thursday for the position of Chemung County Sheriff in the November general election.
Schrom has served has acting sheriff since former sheriff Chris Moss traded in his badge for a county government position. Moss was sworn in as Chemung County Executive in January.
Schrom is set to officially announce his campaign on Thursday, Jan. 24. The kickoff event is open to the public and will take place at 5p.m. at the Holiday Inn Riverview in Elmira.
Schrom has served in the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 30 years.
