ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WETM) – A 51-year-old man who was living at a halfway house in Bath has pled guilty to possession of child pornography after having over 3,000 images on his phone.

Daryl Sumeriski, of Batavia, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

18 News first reported Sumeriski’s arrest in January 2018.

Residents at Sumeriski’s halfway house expressed concern about images they saw on his phone, and alerted police, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire.

As a result, a search warrant was executed and investigators found more than 3,000 images of child pornography on Sumeriski’s phone. Some of the images depicted the violent abuse of infants and toddlers.

The plea is the result of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly. Sentencing is scheduled for January 10, 2020, before Judge Wolford.
