Bears are out of hibernation across the Twin Tiers

Local News

Residents across the Twin Tiers have begun seeing more and more sightings of bears throughout their backyards and on hiking trails.

Wildlife officials are warning the public to be prepared for instances where you may come in contact with these dangerous creatures.

After 18 News reporter Nate Niles visited the Tanglewood Nature Center today, it became evident that people should not find encounters with bears to be a frightening thing.

Officials said the best thing to do is remain calm because the creatures don’t want to harm you. Bears are actually just as confused and frightened as humans are in these circumstances.
