UPDATE: Ithaca stabbing victim dead, police searching for armed and dangerous suspect

ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Ithaca Police Department is investigating a stabbing that happened on Lake Street. The Cornell University Police say it happened at the Gun Hill Apartments around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick says the stabbing victim has died. Mayor Myrick says the victim and suspect appear to know each other and that this was not a random attack. He also says that the suspect and victim are both from out of town and were in Ithaca for the summer.

Police are urging the public to stay away from the area and stay indoors. 

Police are looking for a suspect, who is described as a black male who was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and tan shoes and is around 5’6” with a medium-cut afro. If you see someone fitting this description, you’re asked to call 911.


ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM) – Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick has confirmed on social media that one person has died after a stabbing near Cornell University Wednesday morning.

Myrick adds that the suspect and victim knew each other and that the attack was not random. Both were in the area for the summer.

The suspect is still at large, and anyone with details is asked to call 911.


UPDATE: Cornell University says that Lake Street has been reopened, but Ithaca Police are still searching for a man after a stabbing Wednesday morning.


ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM) – Cornell University issued a campus alert after a stabbing at an apartment complex near the college.

According to the University, Ithaca Police are investigating a stabbing at the Gunn Hill Apartments on Lake Street in Ithaca at around 10:50 Wednesday morning.

No condition or description of a victim was provided.

Lake Street area between Lincoln St and University Ave are currently closed.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’6″ wearing a white shirt, tan pants, Vann sneakers, and a medium afro haircut.

The University describes the suspect as armed and dangerous, and asks the public to call 911 if they have any information.

The Ithaca Police Department, Tompkins County Sheriff’s, New York State Police and Cornell Police are on the scene actively searching for the suspect.
