Chemung County Acting Sheriff explains pistol permit agreement with neighboring counties

Chemung County Acting Sheriff Bill Schrom stops by 18 News Today to discuss a pistol permit agreement passed between Tioga, Bradford and Chemung counties. 

The agreement was passed last week. Before it was in place, those who where residents of the the state of Pennsylvania could not legally carry a handgun in the state of New York and vise versa. This agreement changes that so Tioga county residents who either own land in Chemung county, work there or conduct business there frequently, will be eligible to apply for a New York state non-resident pistol permit at the Chemung County Sheriff’s office. 

The same will apply to those who live in Chemung County and travel frequently to Tioga County. Tioga County residents who wish to apply for a New York state pistol permit can do so at the Chemung County Sheriff’s office Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Chemung county residents who wish to apply for a Pennsylvania state pistol permit may call the Tioga County Sheriff’s office with any questions at 570-724-3491.
