Nearly 200 people filled the Chili’s parking lot on Erie Boulevard in DeWitt on Sunday to remember Steve Gudknecht and Kris Hicks.
“I just know my brother, he’s my idol, he was the role model for the father I wanted to be, he rose up in a way I didn’t know imaginable, he became one of the best men I met in my entire life,” said Chris Chappell, Gudknecht’s brother.
Members of the DeWitt Community Church helped organize a vigil to comfort family, friends and community members after the tragic shooting that ended the lives of Gudknecht and Hicks.
Chili’s will also offer counseling to employees. Restaurant managers say they hope to open mid-week.
