Congressman Tom Reed (R-NY23) held his annual Valentines for Vets at the Bath VA on Monday morning.
The congressman handed out handmade Valentine’s Day cards by local students and individually met with veterans. He’s been holding this event for 11 years now.
He greeted local veterans at the VA’s medical center and expressed gratitude for their service. He says doing this sends a message not just here but across the country, adding we stand with them and are thankful for their sacrifice.
Reed comes from a military family himself and was taught as a young boy that you never forget our vets.
“When they’re deployed, you stand with them and their families,” Reed said. “When they come home, you stand with them and their families. That is part of the message here today. Most importantly too, is that we’re passing this on to the next generation. These cards that have been done by our young men and women in our local schools in Corning and Horseheads, and thank you to the school district for being part of this effort, it’s so important to pass on to the next generation what was passed onto us, that measure of respect and appreciation for our vets.”
Therapy dogs were also in attendance providing affection to the VA residents.
This week is also National Salute to Veterans week.
