A major campaign announcement on Monday from Democratic Candidate for Chemung County Executive Jerome Emanuel.
“I would like to announce the next Deputy County Executive of Chemung County, President of the Southern Tier Building and Trades Council, Mr. Donald Kraft,” Emanuel said.
With that announcement, Emanuel wanted to mark the significance of local laborers by speaking at the Elmira Federal Building, on Labor Day.
He said, with the amount of new projects in Chemung County, he believes that those laborers need a significant seat at the table.
“Labor Day is such an important day in our country’s history and I thought that naming my Deputy County Executive who is the president of local labor here, I thought it was appropriate to do it today,” Emanuel said.
“I feel as though local labor is important, and local labor has to have a better presence in our county,” Donald Kraft, a business manager and secretary treasurer fo SMART Local 112, said.
Emanuel said he believes Kraft holds the same ideologies as his campaign’s.
He also stressed the idea that local labor should be used for projects done in Chemung County to benefit the economy.
