Community Arts of Elmira begins its 2019 Elmira Infinite Canvas public art season May 11 and 12, 2019, with a slate of public art creations and special events to celebrate Elmira’s public art and global conservationism through creative expression.
Sponsors to date of Elmira Infinite Canvas – Mural Fest launch include the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Micro-Tourism Grant, the Anderson Foundation and the Hilliard Foundation.
Murals that begin May 11 include Tanglewood – Aviary at Tanglewood Nature Center & Museum; Project 360 – #3 at Meals on Wheels and River Sunset on a surprise location on the Elmira Creative Corridor. Elmira Infinite Canvas is also in partnership with the Elmira City School District 2019 second public art mural at New York Sport & Fitness.
Additional murals and public art projects will be revealed at the launch and continue throughout the season. Community Built Public Design Workshops, including one with the Elmira College Art Club, and a public one for the Tanglewood Aviary May 4, precede the May 11/12 launch. Other events May 11 & 12 include Cardboard Box Creations in the Parking Lot at Community Arts of Elmira, Plastic Ocean Project’s Opening Reception for What Goes Around Comes Around with Elmira native Bonnie Holden Monteleone, and Curbs to Canvas, an exhibition of artwork that the community upcylced from cigarettes butts collected in Elmira.
“Ultimately, take the EIC – LimeBike Art Ride Challenge to ride to and from Community Arts of Elmira, and form mural to mural, re-discovering Elmira’s public art, historical landmarks and scenic parks and riverscape, enjoying the creativity and conserving the environment of our amzing city!,” said Community Arts of Elmira President Lynne Rusinko.
