Elmira Inmate Indicted in 35-Year-Old Virginia Cold Case

Local News

Authorities in Norfolk, Virginia say they’ve cracked a cold case — and their suspect is an inmate at Elmira Correctional Facility.

Wednesday the Norfolk Police Department indict Daniel Joseph Johnston for the homicide of Donna K. Walker on September 5, 1981.

Walker was 20-years-old when she was found dead inside her apartment in Norfolk.

Now 35 years later, after reexamining forensic evidence and a three year investigation, their suspect is a 66-year-old man serving time for unrelated charges of Second Degree Murder, Sexual Abuse, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Assault.

Johnston was just 31-years-old at the time of the alleged homicide.
