Elmira man charged with attempted burglary

The Elmira Police Department responded to a report of an attempted burglary on Willys St on June 19 and have arrested a male suspect.

Zachary M. Smith, 26, of Elmira, has been charged with attempted burglary in the second degree, a Class D Felony, after officers located him on a nearby street.

Police say Smith fled upon seeing police vehicles, but he was captured in a wooded area near Parkside Drive. The Elmira Police Department says Smith matched the description provided after the attempted burglary.
