The Elmira Police Department is investigating a series of criminal activity at the 300 block of E. Center Street after a robbery and drive-by shooting.
On July 1, 2019, at around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a residence for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers learned that two individuals had been observed fleeing the area on foot. The resident claimed that a safe had been stolen and said safe contained a large sum of US currency. The resident turned over a loaded handgun that had been allegedly left behind by one of the perpetrators.
On July 2, 2019, at around 4:00 a.m., the same residence was the subject of a drive-by shooting where several rounds struck and entered the residence. One of the rounds went through a bedroom window and lodged into a dresser.
A five-year-old child was sleeping in the bedroom at the time of the shooting.
On July 2, at around 6:30 a.m., another drive-by shooting occurred where the subject’s vehicle was targeted and struck several times.
Two of these residents were victims of the June 5 home invasion robbery on McDowell Place. The residence on McDowell is also owned by one of the targeted subjects now residing on E. Center Street.
The victim residents continue to claim that they do not know who or why they are being targeted and have not provided any actionable intelligence at this time.
The incidents are under investigation.
