“Wallet thief” turns himself in to Elmira police

UPDATE: The suspect in the ‘wallet thief’ video has turned himself in to the Elmira Police Department. He was subsequently arrested and charged for the larceny. Elmira police would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying this person.

——————————————————————————————————————–ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Elmira Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who stole a wallet at a local store.

On Sept. 7, a customer at the SAVE-A-LOT on William St. left his wallet on the counter. The man behind him wearing a hat and a white/black/gray striped shirt looked around and then stole the wallet.

***UPDATE***The suspect in the video has turned himself in to the Elmira Police Department. The subject was subsequently arrested and charged for the larceny. We would like to thank the public for your assistance with identifying this person (P.S., the police did not alter the video in any way, these were the images presented to us)LARCENY INVESTIGATIONThe Elmira Police Department is currently attempting to identify the male subject wearing a hat and a white/black/gray striped shirt in the video below. On 9/7/19, at the SAVE-A-LOT on William St, the subject in blue accidentally leaves his wallet on the counter and the man behind him proceeds to steal the wallet.
