Finn Academy receives state stimulus fund grant

Local News

Elmira Charter School, Finn Academy received notification last week that they
will be one of seven recipients of a New York State Stimulus Fund Grant in the amount of $176,270.

Finn Academy leases the former Ernie Davis Middle School building, located at 610 Lake Street in
Elmira. Currently in the fourth year of its charter, authorized by the State University of New York, Finn
Academy has continued to expand each year as it grows to a K-8 school.

The SUNY Trustees acknowledge that facility financing options for charter schools are limited,
therefore its Request for Proposal called only for proposals that focused on facility construction,
renovation, financing, leasehold improvements, and other facility related expenses.

“This grant will be instrumental for us as we continue to grow,” said Jill Koski, Finance Chair of the Finn
Academy Board of Trustees. “It’s an exciting time in the neighborhood as Finn continues to expand,
and the Libertad complex is being developed right across the street—it’s great to see this level of
development happening in the City of Elmira to two historic, and previously vacant, buildings.”

The projects that will be funded by the grant include upgrades to the school’s security systems,
renovations to accommodate the school’s growth in grade level, and upgrades to the school’s
Auditorium.
