Fire officials say they got a call for a fire at Northeast ATV Sales around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
When officials arrived at the South Waverly business, they could see flames and smoke coming from the windows and the side of the building.
Surrounding departments were called in for backup, and after nearly 10 hours of fighting the flames, crews were still working to put out some hot spots Wednesday morning.
Assistant Chief with the South Waverly Fire Department Keith Chapman says they are thankful the freezing temperatures did not impact water flow, but that the large fire made the steel building like a furnace, proving difficult to put out.
“Normally this parking lot is full of ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles, riding mowers,” Chapman said. “They were just getting ready for spring and with the snowstorm they put everything inside so they could clear the parking lot and keep them out from the snow.”
Chapman adds there were no injuries reported and that crews will now focus their efforts on clean up.
No word yet on a cause of that fire, but 18 News is told the Fire Marshal is investigating.
