There’s a new mural in Downtown Elmira. The “Artway Public Art Wall” is located at 413 Lake Street and will have multiple murals painted on it over the course of a year.
It’s part of a 7-month-long collaborative community art project.
Artist Bradford Leiby painted the first side of the mural. He had hosted design workshops in December and February, which came to fruition over the last two weeks.
“”One of the things we came up with was that there’s a lot of different creative people in Elmira, making a lot of different forms of art. And we were talking about how often times it’s those people who end up revitalizing an area. So basically in this mural we’re depicting different aspects of those people, what they might be doing. We have chefs, we have carpenters, we have writers, filmmakers, all of these different kinds of creative fields represented,” Leiby said.
If you want to get involved in the next painting, “Community Arts of Elmira” has a website listing the next workshops.
