ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Food Bank of the Southern announced today a $2,000 grant from The Darden Foundation to help provide hunger-relief to Southern Tier families.
The funds will be used to help provide 6,000 meals to our neighbors in need. The Food Bank helps feed 18,500 people each week; 38 percent are children and 18 percent are seniors.
The Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America® network, is one of 193 food banks to receive this funding from The Darden Foundation. It is projected that this grant will enable the Food Bank to fund several initiatives, including child hunger programs and service to seniors and veterans.
Local Darden restaurants include Olive Garden restaurants in Vestal and Horseheads. To learn more about the Food Bank visit www.foodbankst.org.
