The 10th Annual GlassFest event kicks off Thursday in the Crystal City with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The ribbon-cutting is taking place at 5:30 p.m. just ahead of 2300°, the hot glassmaking event being held at the Corning Museum of Glass from 6 – 8 p.m.
Guests can enjoy food, music, vendors, entertainment, and of course, glassmaking, all weekend long. The event runs until Sunday, May 26.
A few highlights include Saturday night’s fireworks, the Wineglass 8K, and Rock the Park – the free concert series being held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Outdoor hot glass and fire arts demonstrations occur throughout the weekend.
In honor of Memorial Day, there will be a special tribute on Sunday afternoon in the Riverfront Centennial Park at 2:40 p.m. The Corning American Legion will present the colors, followed by a reading of the names of the fallen Hometown Hero soldiers, a 21-gun salute, and a playing of “Taps.” Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country will also be honored in the Field of Flags, where as many as 270 flags will be displayed in Riverfront Centennial Park. The public can sponsor a flag for a veteran or purchase one for themselves for $35 per flag.
