TUESDAY UPDATE: Elmira Police have arrested Shavrice Brooks, 19, and a 17-year-old for an incident on the southside Monday afternoon.

Around 3:50 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired at West Hudson Street and Fulton Street.

Witnesses said they heard several gunshots and saw a light blue or gray vehicle flee the area. They also said two males were near a house at the intersection when a light blue car drove onto the grass. Witnesses heard gunshots and the two men fled on foot while the car hit a sign and then fled south on Harmon Street.

Police don’t know who fired the gun.

Police found the vehicle with significant damage parked near Broadway and Balsam Street, and three males were nearby. All three ran when they saw the officers, and three separate foot pursuits ensued.

All three males were taken into custody several minutes later. Police recovered two loaded handguns and narcotics.

Brooks and the 17-year-old were both arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Both have been arraigned and held.

The driver of the vehicle was Rahmel McKnight, 21, who was released.

Elmira Police was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. The investigation is ongoing, and 18 News will continue to follow the story.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – There was a heavy police presence at the intersection of Harmon Street and West Hudson Street in Elmira Monday afternoon.

Police blocked off Harmon Street a little after 4:00 p.m. and said someone ran over a street sign and drove off, “among other things”.

An 18 News reporter on the scene said many lawns had track marks and that there were five police vehicles, Police cleared the scene soon after.
