Herkimer College hosted a seminar for the 500 furloughed employees of Remington Arms

Herkimer College hosted a seminar for the 500 furloughed employees of Remington Arms. The seminar put on by the New York State Department of Labor, allowed the workers to get information about collecting unemployment.

Several workers signed up for the seminar hoping to get more information on what they should do next.

Some of the workers say they saw this furlough coming.

“Things were slowing down so you knew something was going to happen. You cant keep people employed if you’re not selling enough guns. Everyone needs to get paid,” said Remington employee William Hewitt.

A total of 280 workers will stay on at the Remington factory, the 500 that will not are worried that they may have to start finding another job to compensate for the income loss.

“Me personally, it’s going to hurt, it’s going to hurt a lot,” said Wayne Ingraham, another employee at Remington.

The furlough lasts until August 12.
