Residents in the Village of Horseheads may soon have more options when it comes to choosing a cable, internet, and phone service provider.
Thursday night the Horseheads Village Board held public hearings on applications from Empire and North Penn for new cable franchises in the Village.
Horseheads Village Mayor Louise McIntosh says other municipalities in Chemung County have already signed franchises with these companies.
Right now it is still too soon to predict what the prices could be compared to Time Warner Cable.
“We really don’t know what the rates are going to be,” said McIntosh.
“We’ve approved the franchise — there has to be licensing through the state. This could take months, we will not know what the rates are until they come back with their certification.”
McIntosh also said the Village Board is confident in the services these companies could provide to Village residents.
