How to pre-pay your property taxes before year’s end

Local News

The Chemung County Treasurer’s office is reminding people that you may be able to pay your 2018 property taxes, before 2017 ends.

In 2018, the new tax law caps deductions for property taxes at $10,000. A few days ago, Governor Andrew Cuomo allowed New Yorkers to pay next year’s taxes before the end of this year. If you pay more than $10,000 in property taxes, it may be something to consider.

If you got your tax bill already, payments can be mailed to your municipal tax collecting office as listed on your bill. Payments must be postmarked and mailed by December 31.

You can also pay in person at your corresponding municipal tax collecting office.

For county tax payments, the county treasurer’s office will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on December 29 as the office will close at noon.
