Identity of remains found in Horseheads confirmed

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WETM) – The Elmira Heights Police have confirmed the human bones recovered on April 15, 2019, in the wooded area of Brooke Knoll Drive, Horseheads by New York State Police, are that of missing person Randy Nichols. 

Nichols went missing on August 31, 2010, and had not been seen since that time.  The investigation revealed no evidence of foul play.

Elmira Heights Police Chief Rick Churches told 18 News at the time that the remains were possibly those of Nichols. Police say Nichols’ wallet and drivers license was found at the scene.

Nichols, 48, went missing while walking from 2156 College Avenue around 3:00 p.m. to his mother’s residence at the Villa Serene at 399 E 14th St. 

EHPD would like to thank all of the agencies involved with this investigation including the New York State Police, FBI, New York State Environmental Conservation Police and the Chemung County Medical Examiner’s Office.
