A list of local 9/11 remembrances and their times on September 11:

  • 8:43 a.m. – SUNY CCC, at the flagpole in front of the Parsons Administration building (rain location: Commons). President Katherine Douglas, Acting Provost Dean Fisher, and the Reverend Cynthia Hale will offer thoughts. All are welcome. 
  • 8:46 a.m. – Elmira College will honor those who lost their lives through a day of service and remembrance. The day of programming begins at 8:46 a.m., the time of the first attack, as students, faculty and administrators place 2,996 American flags along Park Place to honor the initial lives lost in the multiple attacks between New York and Washington, DC.
  • 11:00 a.m. – The 4th Annual Tri-County First Responder of the Year Award  will be presented at the Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at the First Responder Park on the corners of South Hamilton Street and Forest Drive in Gang Mills.  The award Recognizes exemplary performance by a first responder in protecting and preserving life, limb and property. It can also recognize accomplishments over an extended period of dedicated service.
  • 12:00 p.m. – Arnot Mall at Center Court.  This event is open to the public and will include comments relating to contemporary challenges from community leaders and author, Norris Burkes.  
  • 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Town of Horseheads Youth Bureau.The event will be held in Teal Park in Horseheads. There is a scheduled candlelight vigil planned.
  • 5:00 p.m. – The Horseheads American Legion Riders are going on a ride. It is open to the public and they encourage non legion riders to join. They are meeting at the Dandy Mart on Rt 352 (3149 NY-352, Big Flats, NY) near Tags at 11:30 and leaving there at 12:00. It will take them about an hour and a half to get there not including a stop for lunch at the Turkey Ranch on Rt 15. There is a memorial service at approximately 5:00 and the 9-11 ride begins at 6:00.
