Local Gymnasts to Participate in World Gymnastics Championship

Six gymnasts from Chemung and Steuben County will travel to Nashville, TN the week of July 1-July 7 to compete for the USAIGC-IAIGC World Championship. 

The Elmira Gymnastics Club (EGC) invited their Silver Level gymnasts who qualified for Worlds to compete. 

The EGC is one of over 60 different gymnastic clubs including nine from different counties. 

The names of the gymnasts competing are Meriele DeCicco, Kerrigan Driskell, Sophia Lotocky, Bryn Terwilliger, Emily Twomey, and Anna Zahradka. They will be accompanied by EGC coach MaryJo Knapp.

US Congressman Tom Reed and other local and state officials will be participating in a ceremony that recognizes the hard work of these young athletes. That event will be held at 4 p.m. on June 7 at Elmira Gymnastics Club located at 192 Daniel Zenker Drive. Big Flats, NY 14814. 

This season EGC gymnasts captured three all-around and 12 event state championship titles as well as one all-around and three event regional championship titles.
