Local Veterans honored by banners across downtown Elmira

Local News

When driving through downtown Elmira, Corning, and Mansfield you may have noticed new banners that are hanging from the light posts. These banners are honoring our Veterans who fought for this country.

The Elmira Kiwanis Club has teamed up with Elmira Downtown Development for the second year in a row to help honor all those who paid the ultimate price in fighting for our freedom.

Those who are honored by these banners are not only people who passed away overseas but many banners also include individuals who fought for our country and were lucky enough to return home.

When you see two banners side by side it is often because the two Veterans are related in some way.

In downtown Elmira alone there are upwards of 225 banners across the city stretching all the way over to the Southside.

For more information on how you can buy a Veteran a banner or to simply find where you can locate individual Veteran’s banner, you can visit The Elmira Kiwanis Club’s website.
