A Mansfield University graduate places third in an international opera competition.
Lindsay Kate Brown graduated from MU in 2013 and credits the school for getting her into performing.
She was one of over 500 applicants from across the globe and was chosen for the top eight finals for the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers which is sponsored by the Houston Grand Opera.
Brown says she originally wanted to be a high school choir director but it wasn’t until her professor, Dr. Todd Ranney, said she should get into performing, so she applied for the performance degree at MU but didn’t get in.
“I worked really hard and I worked with my teacher Dr. Ranney and got into the performance degree the next semester and from then on it was just this is what I wanted to do, so the fact that I found that confidence in myself is owed a lot to him,” Brown said.
Brown is a mezzo-soprano and will be joining the Houston Grand Opera in the fall, one of the top young artists programs in the country.
