A middle school teacher in Painted Post has been arrested for rape in third degree.
43-year-old Kelly S. Conway, a teacher at Painted Post Middle School, was charged for allegedly having sexual contact with a person under the age of 17.
Mrs. Conway was arraigned before the Painted Post Village Justice Thorne and taken to Steuben County Jail on $25,000 cash Bail.
The Painted Post Police Department conducted a 16 month investigation leading to Mrs. Conway’s arrest.
The Corning Painted Post School District released a statement that they are reviewing their legal obligations and rights with their attorney.
“The District is reviewing its legal obligations and rights with its attorney in regard to this allegation and will continue to cooperate with the Village of Painted Post Police Department and the Steuben County District Attorney’s office, and for these reasons cannot comment further. This teacher is currently on administrative leave. As always, the safety of our students is and will remain to be the priority for the C-P-P District.”
The Painted Post Police Department was assisted by the Corning-Painted Post School District, The Steuben County DA’s Office, Steuben County Sheriff Dept., Corning Police Department, New York State Police and the New York State Police Cyber Crime Department.
