Today marks the 75th anniversary of the largest seaborne invasion in history, D-Day. The operation involved almost 7,000 ships and landing crafts along a 50-mile stretch of the french coast. Thousands were killed on both sides. Ceremonies will take place internationally to commemorate the historic day.

A local furry friend is in recovery this morning at a Painted Post veterinary hospital Sammy the cat was found in the middle of a road by a good samaritan early Monday afternoon, and taken to Pawz and Purrz animal rescue. It’s believed that sammy was tossed from a car. He’s now slowly on the road to recovery and hopefully on his way to a forever home. 

Snow is the last thing on our minds right now, but some students and teachers minds are already set on winter, hoping for snowdays. They might be in luck, thanks to the state legislature. The state senate passed its version of a bill that would forgive a snow day beyond a school district’s allowed amount if a state of emergency is declared the same day by the governor, county executive or other emergency management leader.
