A storm ripped through the Northern Tier on Tuesday, leaving a mess of debris and destruction in its wake. The National Weather Service in Binghamton will be in Bradford County on Wednesday morning to survey the damage and determine if a tornado did touch down. 

It’s one of the most basic and critical resources, but a New York state government watch group says it’s threatened. NYPIRG released a new report this week detailing an alarming amount of contaminants in the state’s drinking water resources. The group is now calling on lawmakers to act, by conducting statewide tests. The Department of Health says it will review the group’s report.

The City of Elmira has a new councilman, and he’s feeling optimistic that he can make a difference. Thomas Krebs was sworn in at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. He replaces Jim Waters, who stepped down earlier this month citing personal reasons.

The New York State Board of Elections is reminding residents to register to vote by Friday, May 31 for the state primary elections on June 25, less than a month away.
