On Monday evening Robbie Nichols addressed the Chemung County Legislature regarding the future of the First Arena.
Last month, the Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss released a full list of code violations for the arena. These violations have been a burden for the past seven years.
Nichols has put nearly $122,000 worth of renovations in the building and has yet to be reimbursed. Thanks to these renovations he hopes to have the remaining three violations taken care of by Tuesday.
Nichols says he wants to work with the county as a team. He has tried to contact the IDA numerous times but claims he didn’t receive any answers.
“To, date, like I said, I have not received one penny back, and we put a lot of money into fixing the arena. The agreement calls for me to be paid back some money,” says Nichols.
Chemung County Legislature Christina Sonsire says that they have received and answered Nichols messages.
Sonsire stated “The development agency cares very deeply about the future of the arena. We’re invested in it, just like the community is invested in it. But at the same time, we have a duty to the public to make sure that every taxpayer dollar, that we spend, is spent in the correct way.”
