The Elmira Youth Court will welcome new members on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
An induction ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. in the main court room at Elmira City Hall.
Members come from 7th – 11th grades, and will serve as judges, prosecutors, defense counsel etc., for cases involving their own peers.
After a rigorous selection process, these teens attended a six-week training program and successfully competed a bar examination as well as an interview.
Elmira Youth Court is a diversion program and an alternative to the criminal justice system for young individuals that have committed a crime or an offense.
