A newly launched program in the area helps with addiction treatment.
What makes this program different than others is that it doesn’t just help addicts, but it helps the whole family navigate through the process as well.
That’s why it’s called the Family Support Navigator Program and it’s with the AIM Independent Living Center.
It’s funded by New York State’s Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and it’s not just limited to one addiction.
“If you come to us with any type of issue, we’re going to get you pointed in the right direction,” OASAS Services Coordinator Allison O’Dell said. “Even if it’s not working with me long-term, you can get confidential, free support headed in the right direction whether it’s a referral to a treatment provider, or a self-help group, or just simply sitting down and finding out what is an addiction and then going on your way.”
The program launched just a few weeks ago and is still in the outreach stage, so it’s looking for people in the community to help.
