It has been said that if anything that promises a cash prize asks for private information, it’s probably scam. The New York Lottery’s Collect-N-Win game, however, does need just some of your social security numbers for verification.– The last four digits, to be specific.

The game serves as a second chance for people to win from lottery tickets that were not winners.

A state lottery spokesperson said it recently rolled out new verification protocols for the game. The new registration requires users to verify their identity, ensuring the player is a real, and over the age of 18.

The goal, it said, is to prevent people from breaking the rules and creating multiple accounts.
