NWS confirms one tornado in Cambria County

Local News

A preliminary report from the National Weather Service has confirmed one tornado touched down in Cambria County Thursday night.

The preliminary report says it touched down at Sunneyhanna Golf Course and moved through Stackhouse Park.

The path length of the tornado was about a mile and a half, but that range could be extended.

The NWS says the tornado was up to 300 yards wide.

“The majority of the damage was to trees, with a swatch of trees downed through Stackhouse Park,” according to the NWS.

“Many trees were also down along Menoher Blvd.”

The NWS estimates the preliminary wind speeds were between 80-85 mph.

St. Gregory’s Parish in Daisytown was also severely damaged, but the NWS has confirmed that the damage in that area was not done by a tornado.

This is a developing story and we will be updating as we learn more.
