Almost 2,000 NYSEG customers are without power in Elmira, according to NYSEG’s website. The affected areas are along the vicinities of West Water, West Gray, and Walnut Streets.
Streets normally visible thanks to the street lights are dark, and intersections with traffic lights are forcing traffic to stop from all directions. Homes are also dark.
Chemung County Acting Sheriff Bill Schrom said he was notified that the cause of the outage was a transformer explosion along Washington Street.
NYSEG reported on its website that power should be restored by 12:30 a.m., Sunday.
If you still don’t have power by then, you can call NYSEG at (800) 572-1131 to report your outage.
