UPDATE: 1/27/23 0940: More details about the incident have officially been released by the West Elmira Police Department in relation to the fatal car versus pedestrian crash yesterday. The West Elmira Police Department reports that around 1:21 PM they were called to the intersection of Glen Ave and W. Water Street for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
From the investigation, West Elmira Police determined that a 72-year-old woman from Pine City was walking a dog across Glen Avenue within the crosswalk when a GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 37-year-old male turned left from W. Water Street onto Glen Avenue striking the pedestrian.
The 72-year-old pedestrian was transported to Robert Packer Hospital and succumbed to her injuries. The investigation is continuing and the driver of the vehicle is fully cooperating with the police. The West Elmira Police Department is asking anyone with information about the accident to call the West Elmira Police Department at (607)735-8600.

WEST ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – One person was taken in an ambulance after police responded to a pedestrian hit by a car in West Elmira Thursday afternoon.
The crash was first reported to 18 News just before 1:30 p.m. on January 26, 2023. According to a reporter at the scene, the crash happened near Water St. and Glen Ave. in West Elmira.
The reporter said EMS responders loaded one person into the back of an ambulance; however, the status of the person is unknown at this time.
Erway Ambulance, West Elmira Fire-Rescue, and West Elmira Police all responded to the crash, the reporter said.
