State Police are warning residents that they are seeing an increase in scams, with dozens of fraud cases appearing in 2019 alone.

Officials say that victims in Broome County and surrounding areas are sending large amounts of money to unknown persons, many who are out of the country and unidentifiable.

Current scams in our area include bogus lottery winnings, IRS or Social Security scams, a fake family emergency, a utility scam, people claiming to need to fix your computer and purchasers of online items through eBay or CraigsList who send too much money.

You can find more detailed information about these scams in a statement from the New York State Police.
