The American Red Cross held it’s “Real Heroes” breakfast Friday morning at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Big Flats.
The event recognizes individuals from the area that have saved or changed lives throughout the community.
Executive Director of the Finger lakes Chapter of the Red Cross said the vent is an opportunity to remind people that tragedies can often times be avoided by being prepared and knowing what to do in an emergency.
“More often than not, individuals will say they don’t consider themselves a hero or that they’re just doing their job, but really it’s these acts of current and selflessness that save lives so it’s our opportunity to,” Brian McConnell said.
A total of 22 recipients received awards today, ranging in category from youth good samaritan to animal rescue.
