ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Rep. Tom Reed announced a $49,640 grant to provide the Elmira Fire Department with funding to replace lifesaving extrication equipment.
“We care about ensuring our friends and neighbors have fair access to a fully equipped fire department,” Reed said. “This grant provides funding to replace much needed equipment for the department to help keep our communities safe.”
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant award will enable the Fire Department to replace obsolete and damaged vehicle extrication equipment,” said Fire Chief Joe Martino. “The Fire Department members use extrication equipment in confined space rescues, vehicle extrications, and hazardous materials incidents. The new extrication equipment will provide firefighters with safe and reliable equipment during these responses. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program was the only fundraising source the Fire Department had available to replace these items. Thank you to Congressman Reed and his staff for all of their efforts and support in helping the Elmira Fire Department provide better service to our community.”
