Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office is now denying reports it asked the Erie County Fair to hold off on cleaning up damage from Thursday’s tornado, until after Cuomo arrived for a media event.

According to The Buffalo News, Fair CEO Dennis Lang said crews were in the process of cleaning up the damage when an aide to the Governor asked them to delay those efforts.

One of Cuomo’s Deputy Press Secretery’s, Abbey Fashouer, said in a statement:

“The Governor’s number one priority is helping the people of Western New York immediately recover from this latest extreme weather event and any suggestion otherwise is categorically false. The Governor has deployed more than 100 National Guard to the region, worked with impacted utilities to restore power to more than 20,000 homes and businesses, and aggressive recovery efforts – which have never once paused – will continue full stop until cleanup is completed.”

Cuomo’s appearance in Hamburg on Thursday was originally slated for 4 p.m., though he arrived three hours later.
