Say goodbye to the days of $1 bottles of water at the State Fair

Local News

This year, all bottles of water at the New York State Fair will cost at least $2, not matter who sells it.

It’s part of a new Fairgrounds-wide exclusive deal with Pepsi that also requires every vendor to sell Aquafina-brand bottles of water.

Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner explains to NewsChannel 9 that this deal is a one-year trial with Pepsi to determine exactly how many bottles are sold, as the Fair looks to standardize water.

Standardized water will allow the Fair to put its logo on the bottles and ensure a constant quality for drinking.

Next year, the Fair will request bids from water companies to be the official bottle provider of the Fair. It will be a requirement that the water is bottled in New York State, like Aquafina.

Some vendors are upset with the decision, worried more expensive water will affect sales.
