School district needs to remove asbestos from ceilings, but needs voter approval first

Local News

the Canisteo-Greenwood School District looks to clean out asbestos in the high school, but it needs approval from residents.

On Tuesday, May 21, residents can vote on a proposed $4 million asbestos abatement project.

According to our media partner, the Hornell Evening Tribune, asbestos would be removed from the school’s ceilings if the vote.

Asbestos was discovered in the ceilings last fall. The removal is needed so the district can move forward with installing new air conditioning equipment and fire alarm system.

The district says there would be no tax increases from the clean-up.

The Polls are at the Greenwood Fire House & Somers Hall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
