This memorial day men, women and children gathered at Veteran Memorial Park in Odessa.
The event was organized by the American Legion Auxiliary of Odessa who was there from the posting of the colors to the traditional firing of the volleys.
Everyone came together for a ceremony to contemplate, reflect, and pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their family and their country.
In the park there’s an eagle monument surrounded by bricks on all sides. The bricks are engraved and used to honor a Schuyler county veteran.
While we were there we spoke to Brandy Huggins a active duty coast guard whose already given her country 16 years and is still sacrificing. She shared what today really means to her.
“Were here because of them..its the reason why I serve, its the reason why I stay in as long as they’ll keep me. I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else in the world, because this is where my heart is. “
Schuyler Veterans Memorial Park will also hold a ceremony on Veterans Day to continue honoring those who serve.
