A Southport man has been charged with one count of Animal Cruelty after he allegedly shot and killed his dog on Dec. 4.

Bart Kinner, 57, allegedly removed his 3-year-old dog, Buddy, from inside his home and placed him in an outside kennel. He then shot and killed Buddy as a result of him biting the finger of another resident in the home.

Kinner will appear in Southport Town Court on Feb. 2, 2017. He could face up to a $1,000 fine, one year in jail, or both.
